Clinical practice and research in general practice.
Dr Boris Gass is a general practitioner at the MSP PhAeVE multidisciplinary primary care practice in Arzviller, Moselle, France. As principal investigator of ECHOSTEOM and a scientific committee member, he supports the conduct of the study and investigators with questions about the protocol.
He is an associate lecturer in general practice (maître de conférences associé) at the University of Lorraine, in the Faculty of Medicine, Midwifery and Health Professions in Vandœuvre-lès-Nancy. He is a member of the Department of General Practice teaching team.
As an accredited university clinical supervisor, he contributes to training future doctors in community practice. His work combines primary care, university teaching and research.
He contributed to the methodological development of ECHOSTEOM alongside Dr Joris Dereant, Prof. Paolo Di Patrizio and Prof. Éliane Albuisson. His role as principal investigator connects the scientific work with the study’s implementation in clinical practice.

A medical thesis at the origin of ECHOSTEOM.
Dr Joris Dereant initiated ECHOSTEOM as part of his medical thesis. This work established the research question and the foundations of the protocol, with support from the scientific team and clinical research staff at Nancy University Hospital. He is a member of the study’s scientific committee.
He continues to contribute to the project, including investigator recruitment, steering meetings and the writing of scientific articles.
He studied medicine in Nancy and holds a medical doctorate from the University of Lorraine. He also completed two years of ultrasound training and an inter-university diploma in general ultrasound at Paris-Descartes.
He practises general medicine at Centre Médical Primera in Niederkorn (Differdange), Luxembourg, established in 2025 with Dr Mathilde Dereant.
His clinical work includes primary care, out-of-hours shifts at Maison Médicale du Sud and addiction treatment as an authorised physician. He also co-founded Clic4Care with Benjamin Coquard, a platform of resources and tools for healthcare professionals, to which he contributes as a doctor and developer.

« Élaboration d’une étude RIPH2 et du protocole de recherche ECHOSTEOM »
The thesis concerns a before-and-after comparison of the contribution of musculoskeletal point-of-care ultrasound to general practitioners’ overall clinical decision-making in patients with suspected musculoskeletal conditions.
It provides the methodological foundations of the project: defining the research question, developing the protocol and organising the data collection needed to evaluate it. The document describes the study’s design; it is not a publication of the study results.
